Bus from Washington, DC, US to New Haven, CT: Tickets & Schedules

I wasn't the one who took the trip it was booked for someone else. To my knowledge they had no problems and enjoyed the trip.

Unfortunately, experience is coloured by the lateness and inability to reach destination on time. I'm a tourist and had booked another bus to leave 3 hours after original arrival time for a day trip, however, I finally arrived in New Haven at 12pm, a whole 5 hours later than what was advertised. I don't think this is fair or tolerable, especially when no reason for the delay was given and no one seemed to know.

I arrived at the ticketing booth, already having booked and printed out my ticket at home, and asked for the bag tag. The woman behind the counter was reluctant to give me the bag tag, citing that she "didn't even know if the bus would show up". She told me "the buses are all late, some 1 hour, some 5 hours". I asked her how late my bus was, and she told me she didn't know. This was the worst customer service encounter I have had while travelling in the USA for the last month, and putting aside the fact that the bus was late, the lady was extremely rude and made the experience even more unbearable. After waiting in the line for an hour I found that the train was departing downstairs (on time!) and so had to buy a ticket for the train because I had commitments in New Haven which I had to get to, and couldn't risk my bus being 5 hours late.... I was overall very disappointed with the service of Greyhound today, and am very reluctant to continue to travel with Greyhound on my other bookings.... I hope there will not be a repeat of today's events.
