Amtrak is an American passenger train system, with routes that connect over 500 destinations in 46 states and three Canadian provinces. Previously to 2020, Amtrak offered three routes: the Adirondack which travels between Montreal and New York; The Maple Leaf, connecting Toronto with New York City; and The Ocean, a route traveling from Montreal to Halifax. In April 2023, Amtrak has resumed its Montreal to New York route.
Cross-Border checklist for Canadians
Amtrak has several routes that cross the borders between Canada and the U.S.A. When crossing the border from Canada to New York by bus, it's important to be prepared.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before your trip.
1. Make sure to have all of your documents in order (a valid passport or other government-issued photo ID, and any necessary visas and permits for travel).
2. If you are planning on visiting for business or pleasure, gather the required documentation ahead of time so that you don’t experience delays at the border.
3. Make sure you're aware of the customs laws specific to the U.S.
4. Remain seated after arriving at the border crossing while Customs and Border Protection officers check documents and passports
5. Be prepared to answer questions about how long you plan to stay in the United States, and why you are traveling. If you are carrying any items that need to be declared for duty or taxes, make sure to do so at this time. Remember to remain courteous and respectful when speaking with border officials and follow their instructions carefully.
It's also important to remember that cell phones must be turned off while crossing the border. Taking pictures of immigration officers or other U.S./Canadian government buildings is prohibited, regardless if it is on the Canadian or American side of the border. Failure to comply can result in fines, detention or deportation.

Amtrak User Reviews
Amtrak receives praise for its timely train and bus services, ensuring that travel purposes are fulfilled. However, some users have noted concerns about the temperature being too cold during night journeys and instances of unnecessary rudeness from operators. Additionally, there were reports of passenger overloading in certain coaches despite available space elsewhere on the train.
Drivers were amazing (1 in training I believe) No curbs, no heavy breaking, friendly. The only thing I noticed negative was; no charging ports at seats or wifi. In all fairness; I only expected those things because of the side of the bus saying it was available. I don't know if those amenities were Included with booking. (Why I didn't deduct stars)

So long trip, almost 22 hours trip and not good food to buy. They should have at least a TV on board like planes does ,kind of uncomfortable journey. Amtrak Needs to upgrade services we are in the modern life.

Satisfied in that it got me where I was going. Bathroom was not clean. Milwaukee station confusing, taking elevator up, walking to another elevator, and taking elevator down across the tracks.

Delayed arrival due to clash with goods train also needing the time. Arrived over 1.5 hrs late which was very inconvenient for the pickup arrangements in Vancouver. Plus no platform and cramped slow immigration processing after a very delayed journey was pretty primitive.

Very easy and simple. Train was quite fast. I didn’t know when we got to Philadelphia I was asleep and almost missed my stop lol! Will start using the train more often
Sidney I.
Nearly missed the train as lady at desk sent me to wait for a bus
